Travel Trade Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Travel Trade Manager will work directly with the Director of Travel Trade Marketing and Country Directors to maintain Visit California's travel trade programs as it relates to the promotion of California as a travel destination in all key Visit California's international markets. These programs include consumer-oriented advertising initiatives with trade partners, tradeshows, sales missions, familiarization tours, agent training and other initiatives for the global travel trade industry.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with travel trade operators, wholesalers, travel agents, trade and consumer media as well as in-state industry partners on various travel trade cooperative programs and promotional opportunities;
  • Coordinate promotional activities which can include on-and-offline trade marketing programs in broadcast, print, outdoor, display, search engine marketing, eCRM, social media, mobile, Visit California’s international websites and microsites, Visit California’s international visitor’s guides and other marketing sponsorship programs;
  • Work with 3rd party vendor to coordinate and project manage Visit California’s Luxury Forum;
  • Assist with development and delivery of luxury travel trade communications strategy, including liaising with groups such as AFAR and Virtuoso;
  • Support the travel trade team and International offices in delivering a comprehensive global OTA and trade development strategy;
  • Write final reports, community posts and other articles;
  • Assist with a wide variety of other special projects or campaigns for Visit California (example: Visit California Outlook Forum, IPW).

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Estimated % of Time 

30% Work directly with the Country Directors and Visit California offices to execute the marketing plan in trade discipline. Duties include daily communication, work direction for trade discipline, contract coordination, budget management, market updates, and coordination of various in-market promotional activities. Meet bi-weekly via conference call with market offices to review the status of all trade project and provide support as needed.

20% Work directly with 3rd party vendor to coordinate the delivery of California Luxury Forum. Duties include taking the lead communications role with vendor to ensure delivery is on brand and of the highest level, liaising with California suppliers/DMOs and Country Directors to ensure appropriate industry/trade participation is secured, managing the program budget and assisting with any other event support as required.

20% Work directly with the Director of Travel Trade Marketing and international team in developing and delivering a luxury travel trade strategy. Duties include liaising with Virtuoso our International offices and key Industry partners in the creation of dedicated communications & training to Virtuoso trade agency partners.

20% Work directly with the international team in documenting and delivering the annual Airlift Development plan. Duties include collaborating with International Offices, PR teams and 3rd party vendors if required, to budget, plan & execute launch events and supporting activities.

5% Act as the key point of contact for all trade programs in designated markets for the purposes of compiling reports for Visit California Commission meetings, symposia, Year in Review, and other industry communication channels.

5% Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

Essential Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key duty satisfactorily, and demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in the tourism industry, including working with international tour operators and agents.
  • Previous experience in sales and trade show management including project management, promotion of events and forum-like programs, industry communication, event coordination, etc.
  • Ability to make presentations to small and large groups.
  • Education equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in marketing, recreation, tourism or related field.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Work hours may sometimes reflect operating hours of designated markets.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to speak a second language is a plus.
