Caroline Beteta

Caroline Beteta serves as president & CEO of the industry-led Visit California, a nonprofit organization created to market California as a premier travel destination and to increase the state’s share of tourism-related revenues. She simultaneously serves as the Director of Tourism in California’s Governor’s Office of Business & Economic Development (GO-Biz). Beteta is responsible for implementing Visit California’s $126 million global marketing program and serves as the lead spokesperson for California’s $132.4 billion travel industry. She has shepherded the growth of Visit California into a global marketing franchise delivering millions of visitors and billions of dollars of economic growth to the state every year.

Caroline served as chair of the board of Brand USA, where she provided strategic direction for the $200 million global program. Before that, she served two years as vice chair of Operations. During a two-year term as national chair of the U.S. Travel Association, she guided the successful merger of the Travel Industry Association with the Travel Business Roundtable to form the U.S. Travel Association. Additionally, she has received numerous awards for her creative work and leadership in the travel industry, including being inducted into the U.S. Travel Hall of Leaders in 2016. She was named 2009 State Tourism Director of the Year and received the Robert Mondavi Wine & Food Award in 2013.

Caroline simultaneously serves as the director of tourism in California’s Governor’s Office of Business & Economic Development (GO-Biz). In her dual capacity, she is responsible for implementing Visit California’s global marketing program and serves as the lead spokesperson for California’s travel industry. Caroline has shepherded the growth of the Visit California program, from which brand advertising alone generated incremental visitor spending returns of more than $13.1 billion in 2017. Under her leadership, California’s share of U.S. domestic travel has grown by more than 1 percent, bringing tens of millions of additional visitors to the state every year.

Caroline holds a degree in International Relations from the University of California at Los Angeles. She obtained a master’s degree in Public Administration/Intergovernmental Affairs from the University of Southern California. She has also completed the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Marketing Management Program.

He has been with Air Canada Rouge for 2 1/2 years and with Air Canada for more than 12 years and is a qualified Captain on the Airbus A320 series of aircraft. Prior to coming to Air Canada, Chris was an officer and pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 17 years having held numerous flying positions as well as Squadron level command positions.

Elizabeth Linder

Elizabeth Linder has never held a position with an existing job description. She is currently Executive Director of Global Communications & External Affairs at Beautiful Destinations, where she is spearheading the company's approach to digital diplomacy as tourism's most dynamic frontier in global policymaking and societal change.

Elizabeth launched her career at Google/Youtube. In 2008, Facebook recruited Elizabeth. She was referred to as Facebook's "first secretary of state," advising heads of state, royal households, government officials, politicians, and diplomats across more than forty countries for nearly eight years.

Elizabeth is a Senior Consulting Fellow at Chatham House and a regular commentator for the BBC, Sky, the Financial Times, and the Wall Street Journal. A California native and Princeton graduate, she holds an Exceptional Talent Visa for the tech sector granted by the British Government.

Greg Sacks

Greg grew up in Toronto, the son of South African immigrants, and tales of far-away places were always swirling around the family table. After 4 years at McGill University in Montreal, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Poutine, Greg translated his French speaking skills and love for mountain biking into a job guiding luxury bicycle tours around France. He spent the next 4 years guiding biking & hiking trips in France, Ireland, Morocco, Peru, Argentina, Cuba and South Africa before giving it all up for a girl. This brought him to Montreal, where he lost the girl and then joined the circus, travelling around North America running a VIP tent for Cirque du Soleil. Three years and 17 cities later, surrounded by contortionists and clowns, Greg still couldn't touch his toes so left the circus behind and came back to Toronto looking to settle down a bit. In 2004 he started a custom travel company with 2 friends, and the rest as they say is history. Trufflepig Travel is now 15 years old, with 26 staff spread across 6 countries. Trufflepig plans and operates highly orchestrated bespoke itineraries full of contrast & quirk for couples, families and small groups in over 40 countries around the world.

James Bermingham, Executive Vice President, Operations, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations for the company’s hotels and resorts, including owner relations, as well as supporting culture development and sales and marketing. In addition, Mr. Bermingham oversees Montage Residences Corporation, a subsidiary of the company.

Mr. Bermingham joined Montage in 2002 as part of the pre-opening team of Montage Laguna Beach, and helped to open the hotel in 2003 as its first General Manager. Mr. Bermingham was promoted to Vice President of Operations for the company in 2008. Prior to joining Montage, Mr. Bermingham was the General Manager of the Latham Hotel and Georgetown Inn in Washington, D.C., part of the MeriStar Hotels and Resorts collection of boutique luxury properties. Before that, Mr. Bermingham was the Vice President of Hotel Operations at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Mississippi, which was part of Mirage Resorts. Mr. Bermingham spent ten years with ITT Sheraton Corporation and the Luxury Collection, beginning in sales and marketing while in London, England, and eventually transferring to the United States where he ultimately became the General Manager of ITT Sheraton’s Five Diamond St. Regis Hotel in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Bermingham is an active member in his surrounding community in Orange County, California by participating with “Hearts of Montage,” a comprehensive outreach program which supports non-profit programs throughout Orange County. Mr. Bermingham has served on numerous Orange County non-profit and hospitality industry boards and committees, among them the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach, the Ocean Institute, the Anaheim and Orange County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the Orange County Tourism Council.

His experience outside the marketing space includes category management, multi site operations, due diligence and acquisitions.

His experience in various roles provides him with the ability to think outside of the box and he relishes the opportunity to inspire and engage the members of the team to deliver bigger and better ideas.

Jason’s current role in Flight Centre focuses on the brand direction and marketing execution for Australia. With over 900 stores and over 5,000 consultants, Flight Centre’s near $6 Billion (AUD) in turnover makes them the largest travel retailer in Australia and also a market leader in the U.K., Canada, South Africa and New Zealand. Building mutually beneficial partnerships has played a large role in the strategy of Flight Centre, and Jason has been involved with the creation and delivery of this strategy for the past four years.

Todd was appointed Executive Director of the Oregon Tourism Commission (dba Travel Oregon) in June 1996 and was named Chief Executive Officer in September 2004. 

Under Todd’s leadership, the tourism industry in Oregon has flourished into a $11.8 billion industry that employs more than 112,000 Oregonians. In 2003 he helped lead an effort to establish dedicated and stable funding for the Commission. This funding has been crucial in Travel Oregon’s ability to grow the state’s tourism industry through strengthening its base of international markets; leadership in sustainable tourism initiatives; and award-winning publications, niche-oriented websites and advertising campaigns. 

Travel Oregon has garnered 22 Mercury Awards during Todd’s tenure, including two top awards for Best Overall State Marketing Program in 2010 and 2013. Recent Mercury Awards include: Best State Broadcast Campaign (2016), Best Branding and Integrated Marketing Campaign (2015), Best State International Marketing (2015, 2011 and 2009), Best Co-Op Marketing Plan (2014), Best Travel Website (2013), Best Interactive Marketing Program (2011), Best State Travel Guide (2011), Best State Tourism Print Advertising (2009), Special Projects – Eclipse (2018) and International Marketing – Road Rally (2018). Todd was also honored by the NCSTD as the State Tourism Director of the Year in 2006 and inducted into U.S. Travel Hall of Leaders in 2018. 

Todd is a past Chair of the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (USTTAB), a position he was appointed to in January 2012 after being initially appointed to the Board in 2010. Todd continues to serve on the USTTAB, having been appointed to a fourth term by US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. Todd was appointed in November 2016 by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Travel and Tourism Infrastructure (NACTTI); serves on the board of the U.S. Travel Association as the immediate past National Chair; serves on the National Council of State Tourism Directors (NCSTD) and the Western States Tourism Policy Council (WSTPC).

Tom Norwalk

Tom Norwalk is President & CEO of Visit Seattle, the private, nonprofit marketing organization that promotes Seattle as a destination for international and domestic leisure travel, meetings and conventions. Norwalk oversees more than 70 employees in the organization’s main Seattle office as well as sales offices in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. Norwalk is a hospitality veteran with extensive hotel and travel experience, ranging from international brands such as Westin and Four Seasons, to local industry organizations such as Seattle Hospitality Group, LLC and The Golf Club at Newcastle. Norwalk currently serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Travel Association and holds board positions with Washington State Destination Marketing Organization (WSDMO), Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Steering Committee for the new Tomorrow @ Sea-Tac Coalition which supports development and implementation of the Sea-Tac International Airport Sustainable Master Plan. He is a former board director for Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

A Seattle native, Norwalk earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Washington State University. He and his wife, Linda, have three adult children and three grandchildren, and reside in Bothell, WA.

Visit Seattle, a private, nonprofit marketing organization, has served as Seattle/King County’s official destination marketing organization (DMO) for more than 50 years. The goal of these marketing efforts is to enhance the employment opportunities and economic prosperity of the region. Some 39.9 million visitors spend $7.4 billion in Seattle and King County annually, contributing $762 million in state and local tax revenues.  Direct visitor spending benefits hotels, retailers, restaurants, attractions, transportation services and other businesses, and supports jobs for nearly 76,000 people in the Seattle region.

Wendy Olson Killion

Wendy Olson Killion is a vice president at Expedia Group Media Solutions, where she oversees business development and marketing partner relations globally, leading teams around the world in the creation and implementation of digital media campaigns across the portfolio of Expedia Group brands. She previously directed global advertising product development, including display, email, social and mobile solutions.

 

Before joining Expedia Group, Wendy led product management of the emerging channels and brands at Cars.com, and previously spent five years at J.D. Power and Associates. Wendy is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound and lives in Seattle with her family.
