Every January is California Restaurant Month, when destinations and restaurants across the state showcase the best of local cuisine. From special events and menus to pre fixe dinners and exclusive deals, California Restaurant Month participants bring to life the culinary experiences that make the Golden State the No. 1 food travel destination in the country.


California destinations are invited to participate in the 2018 California Restaurant Month (CRM). During the month of January, this statewide promotional event provides a robust platform to shine a global spotlight on the Golden State's diverse epicurean experiences and position the state as the top culinary destination in the country.

Visit California will support CRM with an integrated promotional effort through dedicated content on, targeted PR outreach to national and regional media, and extensive social media efforts through Visit California channels, California Dream Eater channels and digital influencers.

Did you know?

  • California is the top destination in the U.S. for culinary travel, with visitors drawn to the rich and diverse wine and food product.
  • California produces 90 percent of American wine and is one of the leading agricultural producers in the U.S.
  • In 2016, travelers in California spent $33.9 billion on food and beverages, constituting 29.5 percent of all visitor spending last year. Approximately, 38.4 million (17 percent) domestic visitors participated in fine dining throughout the state. (Source: Dean Runyan Associates).


Destinations can register for 2018 California Restaurant month here until Oct. 17, 2017. Participation in this program is complimentary.

In 2017, destinations across the state brought California Restaurant Month to life. From the diverse efforts of first-time participants to the farm-centric vision of CRM mainstays, there is a multitude of ways to share your destination's culinary story.

To be eligible to participate in CRM, destinations must offer special culinary programming during the month of January that could include:

  • Restaurant week programs with themed menus focused on seasonality, local fare, special ingredients, signature cocktails or special pricing
  • A series of culinary experiences such as winemaker, brewer, forager, slow food dinners, VIP Tours, etc.
  • Food festivals and related ancillary programming

  • Sept. 20, 2018 – Webinar: Creating your California Restaurant Month program
  • Sept. 12, 2017 – Early bird registration closes. Early registrants will receive preference on advance media opportunities.
  • Oct. 17, 2017 – Last day for destinations to register for CRM 2018
  • Oct. 17, 2017 – Last day to submit content ideas to Visit California CRM owned and earned campaigns
  • Nov. 1, 2017 – Webinar: Marketing & PR Best Practices
  • November 2017 – CRM consumer website goes live
  • Dec. 7, 2017 – Webinar: CRM promotional opportunities
  • Jan. 1, 2017 – California Restaurant Month begins
  • Jan. 31, 2017 - California Restaurant Month concludes
