Creative Development Manager

The Creative Development Manager is responsible for managing design and production of corporate and industry marketing assets and industry communications. Responsibilities include managing cross- departmental creative projects, presentation development and developing corporate website graphics. This position also oversees and maintains a comprehensive statewide image and video library, develops and enforces Visit California design standards and is the key creative contact for all Visit California industry-facing collateral and multimedia presentations.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Oversee creative development of B2B publications, video and collateral.
  • Ensure that all design work meets standards.
  • Manage internal Creative Services traffic.
  • Develop, maintain and manage vendor relationships.
  • Oversee digital asset library, including commissioned projects.
  • Create Visit California multimedia presentations.
  • Manage corporate brand standards and logo applications across 14 markets.
  • Build design and production timelines for all creative projects, including scheduling time for key stakeholder review, and manage challenges to ensure all deliverables stay on course.
  • Develop and track per-project and overarching budget.
  • Manage promotional products and creative campaigns.
  • Oversee contracts for all creative projects done with vendors.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Estimated % of Time 

  • 50% In-house design manager for projects and timelines such as design of trade show booths, promotional collateral, event deĢcor at conferences and receptions, and business outreach & communications. Work closely with Visit California print, video and design contractors on outsourcing of projects.
  • 10% Oversee digital asset library, working to commission projects to ensure most current representation of California product, managing asset expirations and being primary point of contact for account questions and troubleshooting
  • 10% Support presentation development, visual design and multimedia execution and production for speeches and events including board meetings, conferences, executive speeches and industry relations speaking engagements; some technical configurations and support for presentations including set-up and playback; and coordination of presentation details such as location, room setup, and audio visual requirements 
  • 20% Work closely with all departments to obtain content and execute design pieces to include photos, logos and design elements. Manage appropriate vendors for production.
  • 10% Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Essential Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key duty satisfactorily, and demonstrate the following:

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with design software and industry-standard programs (Macintosh hardware and OS software, Adobe Creative Suite and other print/web development software and associated file formats).
  • Extensive experience using PowerPoint and other presentation software.
  • Strong technical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for audio/video equipment.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience in contracting and budget management.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others in a professional office environment.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience.
  • Education equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in communications, marketing, tourism or related field a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
