Mexico Kicks Off the 'Around the Globe' Webinar and Networking Series

By Walt Wang 04/20/2021

Visit California’s new “Around the Globe” seres each offer a deep dive into one of California’s top international markets. These latest additions to the Outlook Forum Plus webinar series bring together California partners with travel trade, media and destinations in target markets to dispel uncertainty about international travel as markets reopen. Each “Around the Globe” stop also features a networking session for California DMOs and a virtual FAM trip in California for each of the featured international markets.

On March 17, “Around the Globe” made its first stop in Mexico. California’s neighbor is expected to have the fastest rebound among all key source markets. Spending by Mexican visitors is projected to reach $4.2 billion in 2023, almost on a par with 2019’s $4.26 billion Mexican visitor spending.

The Mexico virtual FAM featured San Francisco, Monterey and North Lake Tahoe. Each of the participating tour operators received a FAM box beforehand with California-themed gifts. The tour introduced Mexican travel trade to the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco, Carmel’s food scene and skiing on Squaw.

The market spotlight webinar and the DMO networking sessions were hosted on April 14. Visit California President and CEO Caroline Beteta began the webinar with a message of welcome to California partners and Mexican participants. Guest speakers presented the latest trends and information of Mexico’s consumer sentiment, airlines and travel trade in front of 114 industry partners.

In the DMO networking sessions following the webinar, 17 California DMOs were grouped into five breakout rooms and connected with 5 Mexican tour operators. The event helped California DMOs reconnect with the major tour operators in Mexico and prepare for their own market re-entry in the near future.

“Around the Globe” will touch down in U.K. in early May as the country moves toward a its May 17 date to lift travel restrictions.
