San Francisco Media Reception welcomes 80 media

By Kristen Bonilla 05/18/2017

Visit California's spring 2017 San Francisco Media Reception took place on May 16 at the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27. A panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay and Bay Bridge served as the perfect backdrop for an evening of networking.

Forty-five California tourism industry partners welcomed the 80 media attendees representing publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Bay Area News Group, AFAR, Sunset, Via, and Smart Meetings.

This year, Visit California extended invites to international media based in the Bay Area with the help of the organization's international offices and their local connections. One of the international attendees, Brazilian digital influencer Bruna Vieira (@brunavieira), shared the experience with her 2 million Instagram followers. Two posts to her feed from the event have a combined 50,000 likes, and she also shared 20 Instagram Stories from the evening.

The San Francisco Media Reception offers industry partners a great opportunity to foster relationships with in-state media and make new connections in the ever-changing media landscape.

“At Visit SLO CAL ,we highly value our partnership with Visit California and greatly appreciate the ability to participate in events like the San Francisco Media Reception,” said Kylee Corliss, senior communications coordinator at Visit SLO CAL. “The Bay Area is a key feeder market for San Luis Obispo County, and at this event we had the opportunity to connect with writers from Via Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle and other great outlets. Sharing the SLO CAL message with their audiences is essential to our success.”

Thank you to all of the industry partners who attended this event. The amazing media turnout is a testament to the stories California's travel industry has to share throughout the state. A special thanks to The Original Farmers Market, Visit Yosemite Madera County and Visit Oakland for donating raffle prizes, to Gold Country Visitors Association for donating the gift wine, to the Wine Institute for sponsoring the evening's poured wine, and to Oakland Coffee Works for generously serving their sustainably grown organic coffee.
