Visit California Hosts First-Ever Social Media Mastery Workshop
By Gohar Manukyan 11/08/2023
One of Visit California’s main goals is to help its industry partners thrive in the competitive tourism marketplace. To this end, the team recently hosted an all-day Social Media Content Strategy Workshop on Nov. 1 at Google headquarters in Mountain View to help industry partners take their social media skills to the next level.
The event brought together more than 100 industry partners and their team members to learn about:
- Creating a sustainable and effective social strategy
- How to create effective YouTube Shorts
- Incorporating best practices for social media posts and short-form video
- Using the best tools for creating content – CapCut, Canva and others
The educational sessions were led by the Visit California social media team, along with external experts Mary Nice Consulting, Stripe Theory, and Google and YouTube team members.
The event educated industry partners through presentations and several hands-on activities. Attendees had the opportunity to break off into groups to create their own social media content strategy based on a prompt given by the presenters. They were asked to bring their content strategy to life by creating a video and Instagram carousel. The final results were impressive examples of creative visual storytelling.
One attendee remarked, “I am very knowledgeable in this area already, so I was worried I wouldn’t learn anything new. However, while I already felt pretty solid on the tech side, I found some of the content very insightful for generating new ideas.”
Attendees also heard from Google team members in a general overview session about how to maximize their Google Business Profile, and later in the afternoon industry members had an opportunity to attend more in-depth sessions on best practices for hotels, restaurants, and attractions where they could learn best practices and ask questions directly to Google staff.
The Visit California team is incredibly thankful to the industry partners who attended the event and looks forward to offering new learning and engagement opportunities soon.
