About us

Working hand in hand with the tourism industry to bring the world to California.

Championing the Golden State tourism industry

The California Travel and Tourism Commission, doing business as Visit California, is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit corporation formed to market California as a desirable tourism destination. Visit California works in close coordination with California’s Office of Tourism — while Visit California conducts marketing programs that drive visitation, the Office of Tourism oversees the assessment program that helps to fund these initiatives.

Visit California referendum

California’s travel and tourism businesses vote every six years to decide whether or not they want to renew the Visit California program.

In the last referendum in 2019, California’s tourism industry gave a resounding “Yes” to the Visit California Marketing Renewal, passing with 95% of votes in favor. This was the highest approval rating since Visit California’s inception, even with the largest pool of voting stakeholders to date.
