Leaders from California’s travel and tourism industry convened at Outlook Forum 2020 for two full days of conference programming and a Visit California Board of Directors meeting. A record 783 attendees booked 1,570 room nights in host city San Diego, where fair winter weather and a thriving tourism economy provided an inspiring backdrop for learning, vision-setting and networking.

More than 58 experts from destinations around the world joined Visit California team members in hosting focused sessions on topics from stewardship and brand marketing to the shifting earned media and trade landscapes.

Highlights included:

  • United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz delivered a candid keynote on the future of the airline industry
  • Phil Rosenthal, creator of “Everyone Loves Raymond” and star of the hit Netflix series “Somebody Feed Phil” joined Visit California CEO Caroline Beteta for an insightful — and hilarious — Q&A.
  • U.S. Travel Association President & CEO Roger Dow, Brand USA President & CEO Chris Thompson, and Destinations International President & CEO Don Welsh joined Caroline Beteta for a national perspective of the tourism industry.
  • The industry celebrated the record turnout and overwhelming passage of the Marketing Renewal to continue promoting California to the world.
  • Visit California’s international managing directors gave updates on trends and strategies for each of the organization’s 14 target international markets.

And this was the most sustainable Outlook Forum to date. The event eliminated single-use plastics, implemented a three-stream waste diversion system, and minimized waste from event production and catering. Volunteer sustainability stewards helped educate attendees and answer questions throughout the conference.
