Location: Hybrid (2-3 days per week on site, 2-3 days per week remote)

Visit California is seeking a Travel Trade Manager to play a leadership role in advancing the organization’s global travel trade engagement strategy across domestic and priority international markets.

This role is responsible for leading and owning major travel trade programs, partner initiatives, and market activations, translating strategic direction into high-impact execution while helping shape how programs evolve over time. The Travel Trade Manager operates with significant autonomy, serving as a key thought partner to the Director of Travel Trade and a leader across cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate brings strong travel trade marketing or transferable marketing expertise, a data-driven mindset, and the ability to influence partners and stakeholders.

 

Areas of responsibility

Travel Trade Distribution & Platform Program Leadership (30%)

  • Lead execution of priority travel trade distribution programs across key platforms, partners, and markets, aligned with Visit California’s global trade strategy.
  • Manage relationships with assigned distribution partners (e.g., tour operators, OTAs, airlines, and retail partners), serving as the primary point of contact for program delivery.
  • Oversee cooperative marketing initiatives that drive destination visibility, consumer demand, and partner engagement.
  • Identify opportunities to improve program effectiveness, partner mix, and channel performance, providing recommendations to the Director of Travel Trade.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with brand, media, PR, and analytics teams to ensure integrated execution from inspiration through booking pathways.
  • Support air service development efforts by leading marketing activations tied to route launches and performance initiatives.

Travel Advisor Engagement & Enablement Leadership (30%)

  • Lead execution and continuous optimization of Visit California’s travel advisor engagement and training initiatives.
  • Guide enhancements to the travel advisor platform in partnership with internal stakeholders and external technology vendors.
  • Ensure advisor programs reflect market needs, evolving advisor behavior, and best practices in engagement and learning.
  • Leverage CRM data and engagement analytics to assess performance, identify insights, and inform program improvements.
  • Align closely with international teams and distribution partners to ensure consistent messaging and coordinated advisor pathways from inspiration to purchase.

In-Person Engagement & Industry Events (20%)

  • Lead planning and execution of assigned travel trade events, forums, sales missions, and in-market activations.
  • Play a leadership role in Visit California’s participation at major industry events such as IPW and other global trade gatherings.
  • Oversee event objectives, partner participation, and post-event follow-up to maximize business and relationship value.
  • Manage agencies, vendors, and third-party partners supporting event delivery.

Strategic Alignment, Performance & Leadership (20%)

  • Partner closely with international teams and cross-functional teams to align travel trade programs with organizational priorities and market opportunity.
  • Develop insight-driven reporting and presentations that highlight program outcomes, trends, and recommendations for optimization.
  • Contribute strategic perspective to planning discussions, special projects, and enterprise initiatives led by the Director of Travel Trade.
  • Mentor junior team members, providing guidance, feedback, and leadership across assigned initiatives.
  • Identify emerging opportunities within the travel trade landscape and surface insights to inform future program development.

 

Qualifications and experience

Marketing, Strategy & Program Leadership

  • Demonstrated success leading complex marketing, partnership, or engagement programs across multiple markets or channels.
  • Ability to balance executional excellence with strategic thinking and continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into insights and recommendations.

Technology & Platform Fluency

  • Strong working knowledge of CRM systems, marketing platforms, and digital engagement tools.
  • Experience collaborating with technology vendors or internal product teams to evolve platforms or programs.
  • Comfort leveraging data and technology to enhance partner and advisor engagement.

Partnership & Influence

  • Experience managing high-value partners and influencing outcomes without direct authority.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills within matrixed organizations.
  • Confident presenter with the ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders and external partners.

Experience & Education

  • Typically 6-8 years of experience in marketing, partnerships, travel, hospitality, destination marketing, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Experience within the travel ecosystem is highly desirable.
  • International or global market experience is beneficial.
  • Multilingual capability is beneficial given the global scope of this role.

Travel Expectations

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally in support of partner engagement and key industry events.

Salary and compensation

Salary Range: $97,500 to $158,500

The range displayed reflects the range the organization reasonably expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
