Reuniting for the Los Angeles Media Event

Visit California hosted its first in-person media event since the pandemic in Los Angeles on Oct. 28, 2021.

The event welcomed Los Angeles-based and other Southern California media, with a focus on top-tier, quality media and content creators to keep the event more intimate, allowing guests to have a robust networking experience with more in-depth conversations. In all, 33 media attended to meet with the 26 destination partners that were eager to share their stories of what’s new and noteworthy.

Media members in attendance represented outlets such as The LA Times, Travel + Leisure, AFAR, California Meetings + Events, Palm Springs Life Magazine, TravelAge West, Westways, Sunset Magazine and more. Six content creators were also in attendance - some even sharing on their social feeds right from the event, resulting in more than 179,000 impressions. It was wonderful being amongst these Southern California-based journalists and content creators, who were some of the biggest allies during these difficult past 18 months as we all navigated the pandemic as an industry.

Set at the incredible indoor/outdoor SmogShoppe venue in Culver City’s design district, guests were treated to experiential elements, such as an aura photographer who also determined an individual’s ideal California vacation destination based off of their aura color. Refillery LA was also there to help guests create their own scented lotion in a reusable container. Horizontal wine tastings of California wine and chocolate tastings with LA-based ChocoVivo were also taking place throughout the evening.

A bingo, or “DREAM,” card was handed out to all media to further encourage networking. Partners checked off their square after engaging with media, and once a media member’s card had five in a row, they were entered to win one of two weekend getaways - one to Costa Mesa and one to Greater Palm Springs. These trips are meant to further inspire story ideas and often lead to coverage for the host destination.

Visit California is excited to be hosting in-person media events again. These events are crucial touchpoints to create new contacts, foster existing relationships and share story ideas. The next in-person event is in New York City, in partnership with TravMedia for their IMM USA event.
