Brand USA India Mission

By Ashley Abney 10/04/2019

Visit California participated for the eighth time in the Brand USA India Mission and without fail this market continues to surprise and delight. The week-long event took place across three tier-one Indian cities (Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi), and included three rounds of B2B appointments, with the highly anticipated New Delhi Media Days concluding the series of events.

While in Chennai, the smallest of the three cities with a staggering 9.3 million population, Brand USA announced the launch of Brand USA Travel Week India the new format of the Sales Mission that will take place October 2020 in New Delhi. In Mumbai, the VIP Networking Dinner was kicked off by an opening speech from Phil Lovas – Deputy Assistant Secretary for Travel and Tourism - U.S. Department of Commerce while Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Edgard Kagen, addressed the audience in New Delhi.

India continues to be the number one opportunity market for Visit California, currently ranked No. 10 for international visitation and No. 5 in spending for the US. The Indian market is eager to hear what’s new in California presenting the perfect opportunity to highlight upcoming initiatives such as the NBA India Games featuring the Sacramento Kings (October 4-5) and the California Road Trip Republic platform which inspires travelers to experience California first hand, behind the wheel, within and beyond California gateways.

The top 10 tour operators in India currently control less than 10% of visitor volume to the US. This underscores the importance of sales missions and utilizing a travel trade strategy inclusive of tier-one and tier-two markets. In response, Visit California will be launching its inaugural India Sales & Media Mission in January 2020. This California standalone mission will offer delegates from a variety of California tourism businesses the chance to develop and maintain important trade and media contacts in Mumbai and New Delhi, while also offering exposure to major companies from secondary cities. The mission will offer two separate trade and media tracks that run concurrently and join together for signature events. Register today as space is limited.
