New Global Influencer Advisory Board Goes Virtual

By Kristen Bonilla 05/06/2020

The Visit California Global Influencer Advisory Board got together in a whole new way in April – on Zoom! While hosting a meeting of digital natives on a digital platform makes sense, it was the first time that restrictions on travel and gatherings made it impossible for the group of content creators to meet in person.

The Visit California PR team pivoted the meeting to be online to keep a touch point with the group. The discussion focused on gaining critical insight on content consumption during a pandemic and what responsible travel and content creation might look like in a post-coronavirus world.

Now in its third year, the advisory board is made up of seven content creators from around the world, including the U.S., Mexico, U.K. and Australia/New Zealand. This year’s group includes four returning members from the 2019 board and three new members, striking a balance between experience and fresh perspectives on content creation, social media and travel.

The group represents multiple content niches – not just travel – including culinary, lifestyle, fashion and outdoor. Most members utilize multiple social media platforms to distribute their content, including YouTube, Instagram, blogs, podcasts and more, providing a range of perspectives and specialties with a combined reach of 2.5 million.

The virtual meeting was the first time this new group came together, and while it was not quite the same as spending two days in person together discussing, brainstorming and experiencing California, the hour-and-a-half video call was very productive in discussing of-the-moment topics around social media and content creation.

Learnings from the Global Influencer Advisory Board help to guide Visit California’s influencer strategy and create best practices for industry partners active in influencer marketing. The individuals on the Board are Visit California’s most trusted and activated content creators, and are involved in influencer programming throughout the year.
