Recap of IMM and NYC Mission 2020

By Kristen Bonilla 02/04/2020

The Second Annual New York Media Mission took place Jan. 22-24, in conjunction with the TravMedia IMM USA event on Thursday, Jan. 23.

The IMM Welcome Cocktail Reception presented by Visit California jumpstarted the week of events. California delegates networked with more than 150 media in attendance over wine donated by the California Wine Institute and cheese donated by the California Milk Advisory Board. A giant screen billboard played the "Born To Be Wild" Road Trip Republic spot and belief statement generated buzz with media and passersby.

Thursday was a busy day of media pitching. With 44 California destinations represented in the branded California Pavilion at IMM — each taking up to 24 appointments — there were roughly 1,000 opportunities for California stories to be shared with key media.

32 destination partners joined Visit California for two additional events on Friday. The first was an editors’ networking breakfast at the Meredith office, with 28 editors in attendance from titles including Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure, Departures, Shape, Health, Parents, Better Homes & Gardens, Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple, PEOPLE, Rachael Ray Every Day, and the brand new Reveal.

Following the editors’ event, the California delegation headed over to Malibu Farm in the Seaport District for an influencer lunch event. Fortunately, the group was able to bring some California sunshine, making it the perfect day for an event at the Seaport. Twenty-nine influencers attended the event, which also generated 49 social posts.

The New York Media Mission is meant to maximize destination partners’ time in the city, as well as to enhance the presence of the state as a whole at the popular IMM event. For questions regarding the Mission, please reach out to Domestic PR Manager Kristen Bonilla.
