Visit California and the long-running, hit TV show “American Idol” joined forces for a landmark primetime collaboration. The episode aired live, Monday, April 27 on ABC and Disney+, welcoming a national audience to California.
The episode featured the Top 7 finalists performing music that celebrates the Golden State, featuring music from legendary artists with deep ties to California.
Aligning with America 250, the collaboration paid tribute to California’s contribution to American culture, where a free-spirited attitude has long fueled the nation's biggest moments in music, art and film.
Viewers also saw the finalists exploring California on their day off, taking in some of Los Angeles’ most recognizable spots, from Griffith Park to a golden hour moment together at the Santa Monica Pier. The episode also shined a spotlight on the diverse landscapes in California well beyond Los Angeles that have inspired generations of the state's most celebrated artists and songwriters.
Timed within weeks of the finale, the episode delivered high ratings and strong engagement during a pivotal summer travel planning window. Additionally, Visit California messaging appeared in co-branded tune-ins and a robust paid media buy to amplify all three brand campaigns for two weeks leading up to the show.
During the episode, America voted live throughout the evening to reveal the Top 5. Take a peek at the Top 5’s California performances:
Braden Rumfelt performing “This Love” by Maroon 5
Chris Tungseth performing “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish
