U.S. Travel Association’s IPW is the travel industry's premier international marketplace and the largest generator of travel to the U.S. It is a national showcase of America, where U.S. travel exhibitors connect with travel buyers and media from more than 70 countries to promote their product, negotiate future business and build relationships. IPW secures America’s position as a foremost global travel destination by increasing international visitation and showing the world the best of what the U.S. has to offer. In three days of pre-scheduled business appointments, more than 6,200 U.S. and international delegates meet face-to-face to create $4.7 billion worth of future travel business for America.

California Plaza Activation
Above and beyond those traditional sponsorship components, Visit California aims to capitalize on the setting and captive audience to create a wow-worthy immersive brand experience in the central plaza that connects the host hotels to the convention center entrance. Under the working title of “California Plaza,” the initiative has been approved by U.S. Travel, and the space has been secured at the Anaheim Convention Center. The California Plaza will need to be in place for the full five days of IPW: Saturday June 1 through Wednesday, June 5.

Visit California envisions an over-the-top visual extravaganza that stops passersby in their tracks between branded engagement areas and info stations that remain in place throughout the show and a series one-off activations/events staged each day during peak traffic periods. In addition to capturing traffic going into the show each morning (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), each official day of programming offers a 45-minute window at the conclusion of the trade show appointments in the evening to provide entertainment. 

This branded plaza concept will be the first of its kind at IPW—no other destination has done something like this. It’s also a platform Visit California intends to replicate on a smaller scale each IPW leading up to the return to Los Angeles in 2024, so it needs to be developed with that foundation-building factor in mind.


Visit California has conceived of 10 different trip concepts intended to inspire new itinerary development, spark surprising story ideas and build buzz for the rich diversity of brag-worthy travel moments awaiting our global visitors. To that end, a dash of star power will be sprinkled throughout with cameo appearances from some California Dreamers and innovators. We’ll also make a concerted effort to make the participants feel like VIPs and create a slow pace so they can savor the moments and return home with a sense that they were on a mini-vacation.
