Position start date: Immediate opening
Location: Hybrid: 2-3 days per week on site, 2-3 days per week remote

The business relationship manager serves as the connective infrastructure between Visit California’s internal teams, engagement systems, and industry-facing outcomes ensuring accurate, actionable insights and effective cross-departmental communication. This role leads process improvement initiatives that enhance how teams document, measure, and communicate their engagement with external industry audiences. This role assesses current practices and leads the stakeholder review, end-user adoption, and continuous improvement of systems that capture institutional knowledge, industry relationships, engagement activity, and performance insights, strengthening the organization’s ability to demonstrate its value to investors and other stakeholders.

Acting as a key liaison across departments, this role partners with teams to ensure information is usable, addressing the most important priorities for each team, and aligned across organizational goals. Success in this position requires strong interpersonal and writing skills, the ability to manage priorities in a dual-reporting environment, and a commitment to improving the accuracy, usability, and storytelling impact of Visit California’s industry data.

The Business Relationship Manager will report to the Director of Engagement & Director of Data and Analytics.

Areas of responsibility

  • Champion cross-departmental collaboration and change management.
  • Guide the adoption of scalable documentation systems and process frameworks that standardize how teams capture institutional knowledge, industry relationship data, engagement insights, and performance metrics.
  • Reference engagement priorities and data roadmap to plan and facilitate discovery sessions with internal departments to identify key stakeholder touchpoints, existing process documentation, KPIs, reporting processes, improvement goals, and key department contacts.
  • Deliver recommendations and justifications for project prioritization.
  • Support the development of process improvement workflows that take into account team resources, technical development timelines, discovery, testing, training, and support.
  • Synthesize complex decentralized operational information into clear summaries aligning people, processes and metrics.
  • Gather and document business requirements, partner with CRM development leaders to advocate for desired deliverables that meet the needs of both internal teams and stakeholder communication.
  • Monitor adoption of new processes, gather feedback, and refine approach to improve long-term adoption.
  • Support consistent data governance and accuracy by coordinating with team leads and data owners to review, validate, and update records.

Qualifications and experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key duty satisfactorily, as well as exhibit the following qualifications:

  • Education equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, business administration, or related field.
  • A proven track record working across departmental lines to develop business processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong written communication skills, including creating documentation, process guides, and presentations.
  • Experience using a customer relationship management system, e.g. Salesforce.
  • Experience working within Project Management software, e.g. Monday.com
  • A strong customer service focus, with the ability to identify and distinguish unique industry stakeholder segments.
  • Ability and motivation to work in creative ways to expand the boundaries of traditional audience services and take advantage of emerging technologies.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others in a professional office environment.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Salary and compensation

Salary Range: $97,500 - $158,500

The range displayed reflects the range the organization reasonably expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
