Location: Hybrid (2-3 days per week on site, 2-3 days per week remote)

Responsible for the promotion of California as the premier travel destination across a dedicated portfolio of global markets currently focusing on Mexico, Australia, China, India, South Korea, Japan and the Middle East with an ultimate goal of increasing visitation and maintaining market share. Note that market assignments are dynamic and subject to change based on resourcing needs.

This position, in collaboration with the Director of International Marketing and cross-discipline team members, will guide agencies in the authentic implementation of our brand platform ‘The Ultimate Playground’ across trade, public relations, content, social and brand disciplines. As the International Marketing Manager, this position will support and manage in-market agencies in the day-to-day execution of local marketing programs, trade shows, sales missions, events and partnerships.

This position will serve as a conduit between Visit California’s international representation agencies and staff, as well as California industry partners. Responsibilities will include travel to top international markets, speaking engagements and industry relations.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • In collaboration with the Director of International Marketing, develop annual marketing plans for Visit California’s priority global markets.
  • Oversee management of key trade shows, sales missions and other in-market events and attend on behalf of Visit California as necessary.
  • Maintain relationships with in-market travel leaders, including organization of key touch points and partnership opportunities.
  • Oversee familiarization trips for key travel influencers, including collaboration with California industry partners and stakeholders.
  • Support California industry partners through a series of regular touch points, including committee meetings, webinars, in-person meetings and individual partnership discussions.
  • Manage and reconcile marketing budgets on a monthly basis, including authorizing and tracking expenditures, reviewing invoices and supporting the finance team with reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Research team to create measurable ROI for all programs.

Areas of responsibility

50% of the time

Develop and manage day-to-day execution of integrated global marketing plans, working directly with in-market agencies and staff across all disciplines to foster maximum impact and efficiencies.

30% of the time

Work with operations and finance teams to ensure that all international marketing contracts and budgets are maintained.

10% of the time

Work across the travel industry to establish stakeholder meetings and outreach to collaborate on joint marketing programs.

5% of the time

Develop industry reporting and communications specific to the international program of work. Contribute to committee meeting reports and presentations.

5% of the time

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications and experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key duty satisfactorily, as well as exhibit the following qualifications:

  • Strong project management skills and a plus if you’ve rolled out and utilized tools such as Monday.com
  • Ability to develop plans for program execution, including communication plans, timelines, milestones, briefings and development of marketing materials
  • Demonstrated agency management experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management of large-scale marketing campaigns
  • Ability to deliver professional presentations in public speaking engagements.
  • Experience establishing program KPIs, tracking performance and leveraging market intelligence for continuous optimization
  • Experience overseeing and executing integrated marketing programs across multiple disciplines within an organization
  • Experience managing digital and social marketing programs
  • Experience managing co-branded partnerships with consumer brands
  • Experience optimizing digital channels for AI discoverability and in using data and tech platforms, including web content management tools, google analytics and other data analytics or tech platforms
  • Content development and copy-editing skills
  • Global marketing experience preferred.
  • Professional experience in the tourism industry preferred.
  • Education equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or higher in marketing, advertising, tourism or related field a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • 7+ years of relevant marketing experience
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • International travel will be required.

Salary and compensation

Salary Range: $97,500 – $158,500

The range displayed reflects the range the organization reasonably expects to pay for the position.  The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
