Responsible Travel Code

request information

Just weeks before the coronavirus pandemic made landfall in the United States, Visit California published a draft Destination Stewardship and Sustainable Travel Plan, a key step to establish California as a leader in sustainable tourism.

Responsible Travel CodeNow the tourism landscape is recovering after the economic and human loss of the pandemic, and the need to preserve California continues. This means the tourism industry must ask visitors – including California residents – to continue to respect our communities, our environment, our businesses, and the fellow travelers and locals they meet along the way.

This Responsible Travel Code sets the stage for what is expected of travelers in the Golden State. Below is a toolkit for tourism businesses and destinations to amplify the R.E.S.P.E.C.T message to travelers as welcome them back.

HELP US ASK VISITORS TO TRAVEL WITH RESPECT:

  • Encourage visitors to check out #RespectCalifornia Travel hub: VisitCalifornia.com/respect.
    • Content on the hub includes tips and strategies for those ready to travel, and covers what travelers need to know about visiting California.
  • Promote Responsible Travel Code
    • Download printable to display at your front desk, hostess station, check-out counter and more.
    • Download digital files to display on HD screen signage, such as a TV screen.
  • Declare your support.
